Ginger LacyAbsolutely loved this Bookstore! Plenty of books to choose from and so many other items such as journals, backpacks, purses, gifts and so much more. There’s also a cafe and a wine tasting bar. Check it out! Highly recommend!
Summer DeckerOne of the best bookstores in the US much less in LA! Incredible, independent bookstore in the heart of Pasadena. Massive selection of books & gifts, children’s programming, author readings & signings. Great addition is the coffee shop & wine bar! Member nights are fantastic! Best of all is the friend & helpful staff who are clearly book lovers too. Can’t miss bookstore in Southern California!
NatalieKhSuch a lovely bookshop! You can check availability in advance, and if a book isn’t in stock, they will gladly order it for you. It was a wonderful experience to browse the books and enjoy a glass of wine at the same time in the bookshop’s bar
Howard SmithVroman’s Bookstore is a wonderful place to visit and take a gander at for both the curious and avid reader. For those who haven’t been to this place in their travels, it is recommended that they do so. This establishment is undoubtedly a haven for a plethora of interests. The structure consists of two floors, which are equally large in stature, and near mountains of reading material are overwhelming. And just out front, there is a section for magazines to check out. It’s almost certain that anyone who steps in might find themselves there for quite some time before leaving. Most importantly, the staff are friendly and are willing to help if need be.
Jill Garcia5/5 Stars – The Crown Jewel of Southern California Bookstores If you are a serious book lover, Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena isn’t just a shop—it’s a pilgrimage. As the oldest and largest independent bookstore in Southern California (dating back to 1894), it manages to feel both historically grand and vibrantly modern. What makes the Vroman's experience world-class: The Selection: Spanning two massive floors, the curation here is unmatched. Whether you’re looking for high-brow literature, niche history, or the latest Young Adult releases, they have it. Their stationery and gift department is also legendary, featuring unique fountain pens, journals, and local artisan goods. The 1894 Wine Bar: This is a game-changer. Located right inside the store, you can grab a literary-themed cocktail or a glass of wine and actually sit with your new purchase. It turns a quick shopping trip into a full afternoon experience. A True Community Hub: With over 400 events a year, you’re likely to walk into a world-class author signing, a local book club, or a specialized workshop. They even have their own "Walk of Fame" outside honoring local authors. Vroman’s Gives Back: One of the best things about shopping here is their "Gives Back" program. At checkout, you can choose a local organization, and a portion of your purchase goes directly to them. It makes every book feel like a contribution to the community. Tepito Coffee Shop: If wine isn’t your speed, the in-store coffee shop serves some of the best lattes in Pasadena, perfect for a caffeine boost while you browse the massive newsstand section. Pro-Tip: Don’t skip the second floor. It’s usually a bit quieter and holds some of the best-curated non-fiction and children's sections in the state. Vroman’s is more than a bookstore; it’s a landmark. If you’re in Pasadena, it is an absolute "must-visit.
